The heart of speed: new hub for Zip 50 SP Malossi MHR

Malossi’s passion for the Zip Piaggio is now the stuff of legend: ever since the ’90s when Mauro Sanchini rode the vehicle to victory after intense preparation work that engaged both us and the legendary rider. The Malossi family was the first to spot the winning potential in a utilitarian and serene scooter, demanding specific modifications from Piaggio, to transform the vehicle into a roaring lion. And since Piaggio’s original design could not predict the impressive performance achieved with Malossi kits, we re-engineered one of the most stressed parts of this scooter’s chassis: the front wheel hub.

Why replace the original Piaggio hub with a Malossi one?

Beware: the original hub does its job well for those not looking to race. However, as well-made as it is, it struggles to cope with the increased performance that Malossi enhancement kits bring. After all, the front wheel hub is crucial for the safety and stability of the scooter, especially when prepared for the track.

The hub for Zip SP 2319692 MHR ensures resistance to intense mechanical stress, shocks, harsh braking, and load variations. Moreover, a front wheel hub crafted to perfection affects driving precision, improves maneuverability, and ensures the stability of the scooter, especially at high speeds and on uneven surfaces.

Ergal and anodization: the Malossi signature where you least expect it

Thus, to replace the original hub that’s ill-equipped to withstand the stress of racing, we’ve created the MHR hub for Zip SP from solid Ergal – instead of aluminum die-casting. In this way, we’ve achieved our goal: the perfect mix of structural rigidity and lightness. We couldn’t miss adding that personal touch we at Malossi aim to give to each component. In this case, the gray/blue anodized finish goes beyond aesthetic enhancement and ensures greater resistance to corrosion, wear, and abrasion.

Bearing the stress

A high-quality hub like the 2319692 MHR is designed to last over time, to withstand – as we’ve said – wear from friction, intense mechanical stress, and corrosion. Consequently, this component reduces the need for frequent replacements, checks, and maintenance, ensuring greater longevity to the wheel and to the scooter as a whole, thus reducing long-term maintenance costs. Of course, we’ve thought of everything: to perfectly pair our hub with the wheel axle, we’ve included our high-resistance, low-friction bearings in the kit. The component mounts with the original screws and is compatible with the Piaggio brake caliper holder, but does not accommodate a speedometer drive.

Malossi and Zip: a nearly 30-year friendship

The hub is not the first thing that comes to mind when you’re tuning your scooter, because it’s taken for granted that the chassis is adequately sized. In reality, the front wheel hub plays a quietly and discreetly fundamental role – often underestimated – in the road-holding of a two-wheeled vehicle. With the new MHR 2319692 hub, we address all those Zip SP enthusiasts who do not just squeeze every horsepower from their scooter but also have a holistic vision of the chassis and dynamics of the vehicle as a whole.

Our relationship with the Zip SP is like this: so deep that we even think about the most hidden details, the ones that escape the less experienced – and less enamored – eyes of this legendary scooter.
