Our journey
Once upon a time there was a dream on two wheels. We fulfilled it, with craftsmanship and a view to the future.

Malossi 1.0
It was in the 1930s in the province of Bologna
when Armando Malossi founded a small workshop to repair bicycles and motorcycles. In the post-war years of the 1940s, the workshop survived and became a symbol of Emilia-Romagna region’s recovery and entrepreneurship. This is where Ugo, Armando’s eldest son, began the complete construction of a 75cc and a 125cc lightweight motorcycles.
However, it was in the1950s that Ugo turned his passion for motorcycles into a new direction for the family-run business. Together with his father, Armando bought Mar, a historic servicing company for Dell’Orto carburators, and he introduced a division dedicated to the design of two and four-stroke motors for mopeds, lightweight motorcycles and scooters. Ugo started to occupy himself with what he loved the most, yet at that time he did not know how far this would take him.

1960s and 1970s
In the decade of the Beatles, the economic boom and the widespread use of automobiles,
Ugo began producing carburettors for cars, racing cars and industrial vehicles. His heart, however, belonged to motorcycles: together with his friend and collaborator Sergio Bassi, he prepared a Ducati motorcycle for the driver Cova, who came second in the Bologna-San Luca race. Meanwhile, every product that Ugo designed seemed to speak to anyone who would listen: it told of his commitment to quality, functionality and attention to detail.
Sandro Malossi – Ugo’s brother – joined the company as sales and IT manager in 1969 and the dream started to take shape: the first transformation kits for mopeds and Malossi Trophies were launched.
The Second generation
In 1980, Malossi was a small company in the Bologna area, with only a few cars and great ambitions.
As market demands increased, there was a need to evolve, to automate repetitive processes to improve productivity, while keeping craftsmanship, creativity and the human touch at the heart of it all.
Andrea, Ugo’s eldest son, shared his father’s burning fervour for motorcycles and joined the company in 1985 as a test rider and quality control manager, helping to increasingly perfect the products.
In 1988, his sister Alessandra followed him in the role of sales manager, improving the customer experience even further with packaging and after-sales services.

Calderara di Reno, in the 1990s and 2000s
In the 1990s, Malossi was a small company entering this sector, dreaming big.
At that time, it introduced its first robot and inaugurated a new company phase, which bore witness to the successful interaction between man and vehicle.
10 years later it moved to its current location in Via Roma in Calderara: 12,000 m2 of state-of-the-art factory capable of housing robotic islands for the production department, the warehouse, test rooms and laboratories. Here Malossi has everything it needs to confirm itself as the world benchmark for two-wheel components.
The company’s choices have always been of both a technological and strategical nature and have contributed towards creating part of the philosophy that still guides the business today, based on the balance between craftsmanship and innovation. Malossi has chosen to grow without foregoing any of its roots, so that it can always and only provide the very best.
Craftsmen 4.0
Flash forward to the year 2024:
innovation pervades the production department thanks not only to the robotic islands but also to the logistics department, which supports an integrated, automated model to process incoming B2B and B2C orders from the online store.
This is us, today. Looking back, we can see that Ugo’s dream has become a concrete reality, Malossi is a 4.0 company in which technology, craftsmanship and passion coexist.
If success can be measured by numbers, at Malossi we don’t just do the maths: every product that leaves our factory bears a craftsman’s mark, since we believe that the manual work of our experts is truly priceless.
What happened to the dream that has inspired us? It is our present and will continue to guide us into the future.
