Did you think last year’s Malossi Moped Rally was a one-off stroke of madness? Then you clearly don’t know us (and you definitely don’t know Henry Favre). It’s official: the Malossi Moped Rally is back, and this time, 50 of us are taking the plunge. From 29th April to 4th May, we’re heading back to Sardinia with smaller mopeds, spare spark plugs in our pockets, and the full expectation that we’ll be coming home with a very different set of parts than the ones we started with.
The 2nd edition of Malossi Moped Rally: how it works
350 km, 3 stages, 50 moped enthusiasts on just as many vehicles, and one incredible island in full spring bloom.
This year, our base camp is in Arbus. We’re sleeping in tents and running a “daisy-chain” route: we head out, go far, and loop back to the same spot, but every day will be a fresh route. We’ll be hitting spots like Piscinas, a number of abandoned mines, the outskirts of Oristano, and Torre dei Corsari. This isn’t the Sardinia you see on postcards; it’s far better.
You can either meet us there or join the convoy setting off from the port of Leghorn on 29th April, landing in Olbia on the 30th just in time for the first briefing. By 4th May, we’ll be back in Leghorn with our bags, our bikes, and the heavy weight of a thousand laughs.
Who’s joining the madness at the Moped Rally?
We’ve bumped the limit to 50 riders this year, and from what we’ve seen of the roster so far, it’s shaping up to be a global affair. Spoiler alert: it’s not just an Italian crowd this time.
We’ve got a crew of four heading down from Austria on their Puchs (chapeau!), and two Americans crossing the Atlantic just to join the chaos, apparently, they owe Henry a debt that can only be settled in the Sardinian mud.
The early entry list is already packed with veterans: last year’s survivors who are crazy enough to come back for seconds, and this time, they’re bringing friends into the madness. We’ve got a fantastic cross-section of riders forming: from seasoned veterans to fresh-faced teenagers. Everyone is chasing the same high: to unplug, have a blast, and find that pure sense of freedom you only get on a moped.

The Malossi Moped Rally is a non-competitive event, yet if you’re planning to join us, don’t expect a Sunday stroll. We’d love to have you, but be ready to tackle brutal terrain on vehicles that were never designed for the dirt – terrain that’s likely to give your moped a serious beating.
Wrecking mopeds across Sardinia
Usually, day one starts with the Ciao stock points and a carb as exposed as a vase of flowers. However, by the first evening of the Malossi Moped Rally, those mopeds are reborn as DIY visions of indestructibility: knobby tires, snorkel-style air filters, and some truly “creative” engineering. People get incredibly resourceful. The next morning, you head back out, and something else breaks. But that’s the magic – that very moment when you have to figure out how to resurrect a bike with nothing but what’s in your pockets. That’s our favourite part. It’s about ingenuity, lending a hand, cursing at fate, and ultimately, building solutions and memories.
Henry will be there to pamper all the participants, providing mechanical support, essential spares, tools, and all the Malossi premix you can burn. He’ll be cruising in a 4×4, ready to scoop up any bikes that break down on the trail so they can be resurrected at base camp in time for the next day. But don’t sweat: we’ll make sure everyone heads home with a moped in better shape than when they started. After all, Malossi is the guardian angel of the Moped Rally.

FAQ
Who can take part?
Anyone aged 18 or older with a valid license to ride a moped. Your vehicle must be fully registered, insured, and road-legal for public use.
What’s the entry free
There are two ways to join the pack:
– “All-in” – €450: we take care of the heavy lifting. The Malossi staff will pick up your moped (in Bologna between 27th and 29th April by noon, or at the port in Leghorn on 29th April at 4:00 p.m.) and transport it to Sardinia. This also covers your ferry crossing with bus transfer for you and one piece of luggage (max 30kg, 50×40×70cm). – “Meet you there” – €300: You handle your own crossing and we’ll rendezvous in Arbus for the first briefing on 30th April at 6:00 p.m.
What’s included?
The fee covers daily lunch along the route for every stage, mechanical support with a basic supply of spare parts, expert prep advice from Henry Favre on vehicle set-up, technical equipment, Malossi two-stroke oil and technical products, professional photography, and 4×4 trail recovery for broken-down mopeds.
What isn’t included?
The fee does not include fuel, dinners, although we are currently arranging special deals with local spots, any overnight stays outside of the provided tents, or vehicle recovery using any towing services other than our own support team.
How many people can take part?
The full programme is reserved for the first 50 entries. Once this limit is reached, the logistics service will be scaled back and the meeting point will be directly in Arbus.
Which types of moped are allowed?
The rally is open to two-wheeled mopeds that are fully registered, insured, and road-legal for public use. The mopeds must be specifically prepped to handle rugged, off-road terrain. Please note that mopeds using contact points or pulley systems are forbidden.
What are the mandatory items to bring?
A full-face helmet as open-face or jet styles are not permitted, along with body armour, gloves, motocross or enduro boots, and clothing suitable for off-road riding.
Where will we sleep?
In tents at the Arbus base camp, which means minimal comfort but maximum company.
