You & Malossi | Ape Racing World Championship: the fastest three-wheeled vehicles of England

Some time ago, we introduced the section #YouAndMalossi in order to discover together racing teams running on vehicles equipped with our items, events and shows of the world-scooter in which our community takes part

Today, let’s talks about a very particular championship that occurs every year since 2013 on the Rye House circuit, a place in the English Hertfordshire : the Malossi Ape Racing World Championship. It is known to be the only world championship exclusively dedicated to the Piaggio Ape category.

Malossi is technical partner of this extraordinary championship since its birth. Mr. Steve Dennis, one of the event’s promoters, has told us :

We are proud to be technically supported by Ve-Uk – Malossi official distributor in Uk-, that supported us since the beginning of our adventure. It has made available to us the best Italian technology and quality of a producer like Malossi.

Even the English automotive magazines have always expressed their enthusiasm from the very beginning : according to the magazine Auto Italia, the Malossi kit made available for the racing changes a basic vehicle of 49 cc into “a fire-breathing monster of 102 cc”. Furthermore, Ed Foster, a sport reporter who is specialized in motors, has stated the following :

I have made a set of 15 circuits in Rye House and I can certainly say that this will be the world most sensational slow racing.

Getting to the issue of the racing, there are two formulas that promoters of Malossi Ape Racing World Championship have proposed to participants:

• to use an own vehicle, that could further be changed through our kit made available during subscription;
• or to drive one of the modified Piaggio Ape vehicles that had been made available by the same organization. In this way, everybody could safely drive a Piaggio Ape vehicle in sport version thanks also to a session of driving instructions offered.

In few years, the Malossi Ape Racing has become very famous in United Kingdom, aided by the fact that English are very passionate for the Italian style of motors. Many professional racers have driven the fastest three-wheeled vehicles of England: the kart champion Greg Owens (winner of 2014 championship) , and the Grand Prix ex racer of Benetton team Max Wakefield.

But not only expert racers compete in the Malossi Ape Racing World Championship. Some time ago, for example, the English comic actor Johnny Vegas raced. He described the event on his Istangram profile in this way :
